Capital intensity in agriculture and horticulture further increased. The average balance sheet value of the Dutch agricultural and horticultural holdings increased in 2016 to €2.9m. The increase is mainly caused by an increase of the average farm size and by a higher price of agricultural land. More than two-thirds of the balance sheet total is financed with equity capital. Long-term debts have stabilised at an average of €800,000 per holding. Solvency varies widely between holdings and farm types. In particular, better economic results in the 2014-2016 period have improved solvency by almost 20 percentage points to an average level of more than 50%. Especially the large holdings in agriculture and horticulture are relatively heavily financed with outside capital, but they also have a high level of modernity. |
