Adverse competitive position in Dutch pig sector stabilised; Results of InterPIG 2016 |
14/12/2017 |
The pig sector in the Netherlands has higher costs of production than in neighbouring countries. This is caused by a slower increase of sow productivity and increasing manure disposal costs. The cost difference did not increase further in 2016. The most relevant pig producing countries in Western Europe have a calculated cost of production of some €1.35-1.45 per kg of hot slaughter weight. The Netherlands is clearly more expensive, with a cost of production of €1.55 per kg. This is concluded from the results of the InterPIG cost comparison over 2016. |
