Ornamentals export to record high in first five months |
28/06/2017 |
The export value of ornamentals over the first five months of 2017 reached almost 3bn euros, a record for this period. The increase of 7.5% is partly due to the favourable spread of flower giving holidays. This also improved auction turnover for produce grown in the Netherlands. After several months of lower turnover, cutflowers realised a higher turnover in May than in the same month of 2016 (+3.3%). Cumulative turnover for the first five months of 2017 increased by 1.2% compared with 2016. Turnover for indoor plants in the first five months was even 5% higher than last year. Although the number of sold Dutch-grown garden plants decreased further, the price increase resulted in a turnover increase for the first five months of 2017 of about 6% compared with last year. |
